High Hurstwood, East Sussex.
Tucked away in a quiet East Sussex valley, the pretty village of High Hurstwood is home to these two charming adjoining cottages thoughtfully converted from a 150-year-old barn to offer guests an idyllic countryside setting.
Situated within the grounds of the owner's farm and equestrian centre and close to Ashdown Forest this is a perfect base for horse enthusiasts and ramblers alike. Both the Wealdway and the Vanguard Way, two of England's famous walks, lead virtually from the cottages up on to the Forest. Covering over 6000 acres of the High Weald, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, horse riders have countless bridleways available to them, but if you prefer to enjoy the countryside on two feet or even two wheels it is also a great place for walking, cycling and enjoying spectacular views.
For a very different change of scenery and just a few minutes drive away, placed at the very heart of the Sussex Weald, is the bustling town of Uckfield. Its vibrant High Street offers a wide range of services including a picture house dating back to the 1920's, and is the local shopping centre for surrounding villages.
Visit the farmers market on the first Saturday of every month and pick up some delicious local fare, have a pint of Harveys, the local brew, in one of the many friendly pubs or enjoy a mouth- watering meal from any of the town's cosmopolitan range of restaurants.
Further afield you will discover a variety of National Trust and English Heritage properties and gardens, Glyndbourne, the famous Opera House; the nostalgic Bluebell Railway; Brighton and its stylish Marina, or the more traditional resort of Eastbourne with superb blue flag beaches. Not forgetting of course, the famous Beachy Head. Should you still have time to spare after all this, London with shopping, shows and famous landmarks is just over an hour from Uckfield or Crowborough stations.
On entering the cottages you will find the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming with warm golden- wood floors and furniture complimented with dashes of colour. The open plan living/ kitchen/diner has stairs leading to the galleried bedroom above [offering the facility of either twin or a double bed]. The spacious bathroom is on the ground floor.
The cobbled courtyard in front of the cottages is a great place to unwind after your days activities with a glass of something chilled.
Agent's Note: • Additional sleeping facilities available for up to two extra people are available at a small extra cost. • Livery facilities are available for guests' horses and residential instruction courses tailored to the individual needs of the horse and rider can be organised in advance. • Riding is strictly by permit only (obtainable from the Conservators).
This property attracts a 15% Olympic surcharge from 20th July to 31st August 2012.
