Set in a breathtaking green haven of calm and tranquillity The Oast is the ultimate getaway! Located in the centre of the smallest village in Kent, right on the county boundary with Sussex, Newenden holds a lot of history.
This is the oldest part of the village and a conservation area in its own right, and the first ever mention of cricket, referred to a game played on the village green here around 1300, and where cricket is still played today! Well worth a visit is the petite picturesque medieval church of St Peter, also dating back to this time and with a 12th century Norman font of great interest - and after exploring the village, the 16th century “pub” will happily welcome you to sample the local ale along with home cooked food.
Exploring the delights of the area are endless with many local vineyards, historic houses and beautiful gardens and picturesque villages all within a short drive. The Kent and Sussex steam train can be seen at times chugging along the valley on its way to the fairy tale Bodiam Castle or take a boat from Newenden and cruise along the River Rother to the castle. Wander on down to Rye Harbour and experience its unique maritime history and the fresh fish landed at Rye is legendary and definitely worth getting up early for. The best family seaside holiday can be enjoyed at Camber Sands with its award winning sand dune backed beach or for a more leisurely pace, visit Eastbourne or Bexhill-on-Sea.
A typical traditional Kentish Oast, formerly used for drying hops and now beautifully restored to combine original features-exposed oak beams, centaury stone walls and even the original hop press- with luxurious modern living.
The fully fitted kitchen with a large range stove offers an amazing kitchen experience! An inglenook fireplace complete with wood burner makes the spacious dining room perfect for that special meal and with a door leading out onto the terrace, after dinner coffee an be enjoyed outside. The roundel drawing room is quite superb and along with sumptuous sofas and wonderful views down the Rother Valley, particularly at sunset, it is a haven to relax in.
Passing the “Hop Press” the top of the stairs on the first floor is the distinctive circular ensuite master bedroom, 2 further double rooms and the family bathroom.

Property Reviews
Just writing to thank you for your help in arranging our stay at the Oast House. It was absolutely perfect and the Oast is wonderful - so much better than we had imagined. It is the most idyllic place and we loved every minute. The Oast has been lovingly restored and the fixtures and fittings were first class. Attention to the finer detail were very appreciated - as well as the 2 bottles of wine of course, courtesy of Alan! My parents had a great time and we visited many places that they hadn’t been back to for many years. All round a really great weekend! Please do pass on our thanks to Alan once again and we hope he is back on his feet very soon. Thank you so much and we will look forward to speaking to you again when we plan our next visit. - SD UK
