Maresfield, Uckfield, East Sussex.
“If you go down in the woods today you can be sure of an enchanting surprise....Priors Barn” Quiet elegance set within woodlands complete with lake, a little gurgling stream winding through the trees and stunning treetop decking offering peace and tranquillity, broken only by bird song.
On the southern edge of the Ashdown Forest in the tiny hamlet of Maresfield lies this unique holiday destination from which to explore the endless delights of the surrounding area. Glyndebourne, the world famous Opera House and a variety of National Trust and English Heritage properties and glorious gardens along with an abundance of outdoor pursuits are all within easy reach walking, cycling, horse riding and for a leisurely round of golf, the Championship East Sussex Golf Club is just up the road. Should you fancy a spot of fishing (permit required) you may be lucky enough to catch a trout on the River Ouse, reputed to have the heaviest weight trout on any English river!
Alternatively the nearby County town of Lewes, offers an assortment of speciality shops and a direct train service to London for a night out on the town - when you have had enough country air!
To say Priors Barn is perfect for couples isn't to imply that it's small; it's more to do with feel than floor space.
The Barn has been creatively and thoughtfully converted to combine traditional style with modern comfort. Awash with golden oak flooring, contrasting noir beams and splashes of warm red the open plan interior is comfortable and inviting with an extremely well equipped kitchen. The chic double bedroom is a delight with French doors opening onto a cute patio, ideal for “breakfast 'a deux”, and the sizeable en-suite shower room boasts a double cubicle. The separate utility/launder room also provides excellent storage space for suitcases and of course those muddy walking boots, should it rain!!
And now for the “pièce de résistance” of Priors Barn - the tree decking. Suspended above a stream this is the ideal spot for a glass of chilled wine whilst you barbeque supper, and then enjoy after dinner coffee on a balmy summer evening.
Agents note: The property offers additional sleeping for 2 persons with bed settee. A payphone is available for the guests use.

| Priors Barn was located in a peaceful location in a quiet lane in Maresfield. The barn was beautifully presented and equipped to a very high standard although some of the equipment was, perhaps, too high-end compared to what would normally be expected. This is of course reflected in the price and hopefully attracts clients who, like us, really appreciate the quality. The bed was very comfortable. All in all a very good experience. - SB England | | | Great central pad for so many places to see, shop and eat but is so gorgeously quiet too ( & Plush). Loved the reading material too, was a privilege to stay here! - TI Bedford | | | We have had a fantastic week here at Priors Barn which has been renovated and furnished so thoughtfully, down to every last detail. This is probably the best equipped holiday home we have ever stayed in! Places to go... Bills Deli in Lewes does a fantastic lunch, Dine Asia in Nutley if you like a good curry. Tunbridge Wells for a wonder around the shops. However, the peace and quiet of the decking is as good as you could ask for! We will be back“ Thank You! - LJ Derbyshire | | | This is a superbly renovated and equipped barn – everything has been thought out to such a high standard. We have stayed in many s/c accommodation over the years and this is in the top 3. The outside space too is perfect and the position is second to none – especially as we could walk to ‘The Chequers’ for a lovely meal. We’ve visted many NT properties and gardens and seen King Fishers and Wakehurst as well as a very large re-dear (stag) which was unexpected!Sheffield park is a glorious park garden and not too far awaybut we also enjoyed the gardeners Monks House which was much smaller but full of wonderful plants. Alfriston Clergy House, Batemans, also Scotney Castle were worth a visit although sissinghurst was a little disappointing! Overall, a wonderful stay – we will be recommending Priors Barn!! Thank You. - SB Northants | | Had a lovely stay, went in to Lewes on Thursday and enjoyed lunch at Bills Cafe followed by a wonder around the shops – beautiful town. Spent the day at Bailiffs Court Spa on Friday – Amazing Massage! Dinner at Wheelers (The Chequers) on Saturday, food was fantastic, service a little slow but only been open 4 months. Donna made use of the fantastic kitchen and conjured up a superb roast on Sunday. Overall a fantastic stay, beautiful barn with everything you need and great to get out of London. Thanks Kip, we would love to come back again soon. - SP London | |
