Ruckinge, Kent.
In a wonderful location for those looking for a peaceful retreat this beautifully converted granary is situated in a quiet country lane in the small village of Ruckinge with its popular village pub. and the church of St Mary Magdalene where it is believed that the Ransley Brothers, notorious smugglers within the area, are buried in the churchyard.
The village itself is on the very edge of Romney Marsh, beloved of artists for its wonderful skies and with walkers and bird watchers for the variety of wildlife, in a marshland area that has hardly changed since medieval times. The Royal Military Canal one of Kents most fascinating landmarks runs along the southern edge of the village and is popular with fisherman. Renowned for roach, tench and pike it offers a rewarding days fishing. (Permit required). For golfers there are some wonderful links courses at Littlestone and Hythe.
The renowned smugglers town of Rye is a short drive away with its winding narrow streets, antique shops and restaurants with the wonderful sandy beaches of Camber Sands beyond. For children the beach at Littlestone is close by as is the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Light Steam Railway that winds its way along the coast for a truly special day out. The Continent is within easy reach with the Channel Tunnel and the Ports 25 minutes away by car or sit back and let the train take the strain from nearby Ashford International Station, taking you to the enchanting Euro Disney or the countless historical and modern attractions of London.
Without a doubt there is something for everyone whatever you choose to do, making your holiday carefree and memorable.
The Granary has been converted with skill and imagination to enhance all its original character including exposed beams and inglenook fireplace.
Entrance into attractive beamed and quarry tiled hallway with secluded dining area which is part of the well-appointed open plan kitchen complete with oil fired Rayburn (for heating only). A stone archway leads from the dining area through to the lounge full of character, with mellow stone walls, beamed ceiling and inglenook fireplace containing wood effect log fire. Door from the hallway leads out to the rear of the property.
Upstairs there is a double bedroom and two singles all benefiting from glorious views of the countryside. There is an additional folding bed suitable for a further child. The bathroom has an impressive vaulted ceiling and corner bath with hand held shower, wash hand basin and w.c.
Outside to the rear of the Granary is a large enclosed garden with a paved patio area in which to relax and enjoy the beautiful Kent countryside.

Ladies and gentlemen. We returned from The Old Granary last weekend. Thank you so much for this wonderful cottage. We felt so welcome with fresh flowers and some basic food in the refrigerator. This was so nice. We had a really perfect holiday in Kent. We enjoyed the beaches and surrounding towns. Thank you. This was not our last holiday in Kent. Kindest regards. - SS Germany | | Good location. Lovely views. Nice setting. Good privacy. Pleasant rooms - notably living areas and main bedroom.
Summer weight duvet would have been more comfortable than the thick one supplied as it was quite hot while we were there.
Shower facilities are difficut to use due to very restricted headroom over bath - though you can see this on the pictures provided on the website.
More info about local places to eat out would have been very useful - not necessarily recommendations, but some local ’foodie’ guides perhaps.
